Introduction to the Brief

Our project 'Brave New World' is divided into two parts.
The Brave.
For this part we have to learn how to make silicone moulds and create a wound with it. In addition to the technical part we also have to research the specific wound we are doing( where on body- anatomy knowledge very important) and create a background story for the character ( how did it happen, when, why , etc)
The New.
For the second part we have to create a hybrid between human and a second chosen element(it has to be at least one other element) . The element could be from flora and fauna or the water, air, fire, earth elements. Here it is very important to do a lot of research on the element you choose as well as the history of prosthetics in film and TV. It is very important that your final hybrid design looks realistic. So instead of going over dramatic we should maybe focus on the key points of the chosen element and combine it with the human part.

I am very excited to do this unit as I find it very interesting to create prosthetics and create 'new' creatures. But also to be able to create realistic wounds is a very important skill for me to have as I was thinking to maybe work later in TV and film. So this unit is very beneficial.
I hope to do well in this unit even though I don't have any experience in special effects apart form when we did wounds in the first year. It is good that we have all 4 hours in one day so we will be able to work efficient on our projects. The thing I am a bit afraid of is not to be able to make my hybrid look realistic enough. Which is very important. Which means I have to do a lot of research to fully understand the human body as well as my element. But it is also important to do research about how to create silicone moulds and prosthetics in general. Because you can learn from the mistakes others made and kind of now then what works and what not. Also it is good to get some inspiration by looking at other work. I also hope that my final design won't be boring ^^ Because even though the unit is very exciting you could get a bit pressured to do something very unique but then you are so pressured that you can't come up with an idea or inspiration. So I hope that won't happen to me.

Let's be creative!
